Clarke Quay, Singapore
The Clarke Quay landmarked historic district is located near downtown, along the Singapore river. Extensive growth and urban re-development has eliminated most of the commercial waterfront buildings. The city invited international developers to submit proposals to revive the district as a commercially viable area. Strict guidelines dictated that all buildings be saved or replaced with historically authentic replicas and all streets and public spaces be preserved. This proposal converted the buildings into a waterfront marketplace along with a hotel, office space and private clubs.
