PUBLIC/ACADEMIC

SOUNDWATERS, Environmental Education Center, Stamford

The "Holly Houses," as they are known in the national register, consist of two separate buildings. The first one dates to 1791. Then, in 1835, John W. Holly constructed a second, two story Georgian house adjacent to the first. These two elegant but simple houses make the new home for SoundWaters' Environmental Education Center. It is used as a community and educational center for all kinds of children's programs, in addition to exhibit spaces for rotating educational events that may even take place on any of the three restored porches.

The setting, in a grand public park on Long Island Sound, provides an intimate relationship with the SoundWaters environmental programs. And the restoration itself was completed with great attention to sustainable materials and environmental engineering systems.
