RESIDENTIAL

Saunders / Albin Residence, Stamford, CT

This existing house is a one hundred year old farm residence on a heavily wooded lot in North Stamford. The Albins asked to increase the size of the kitchen and expand the footprint to make a family room and nanny quarters on the ground floor. A two story addition includes a large exercise studio on the second floor, changing rooms and master bath off of the master bedroom.

From the start, the addition was placed at the back of the house, in order to preserve the main historical structure at the front. The addition mimics the original architecture in form, scale and materials. The original stone base is replicated on the base of the addition and extends onto a new south facing veranda off the family room. A new porte-cochere extends a roof cover from the driveway / auto park to the rear kitchen entrance. Finally a small sleeping porch was designed for the master bedroom within the eves of the roof. All exterior materials are designed to match the original house, including the clapboard siding and cedar roof.

The project was halted after "Schematic Design" when the Albins were transferred to another state. Culpen & Woods had completed a pricing package for preliminary budgeting with a contractor.
