Charkit Chemical Corp.
Charkit returned to CWA to design their new
offices in the old "Coachworks" building in South Norwalk. The area
has seen a renaissance of sorts over the last 10 years. This building
had been an automobile repair shop since the turn of the century.
GE Capital renovated it in the 1980's for office use and then Charkit
recently completed a gut renovation, exposing all of the old timber
and steel framing. The Charkit design also added modern details and
furnishings. The circular stair was preserved, but received new steel
railings with Lucite inset panels. Acoustic ceiling panels were formed
into rounded shapes that look like "beans" in plan.
