Country Club of Darien, Environmental Care Center

CWA's work for CCD continues with the new "ECC" or Environmental Care Center. It's name implies its important role in maintenance and enhancement of club grounds and golf course to strict environmental standards. It will house storage and maintenance of landscape equipment and management of site materials of: plants, soils, fertilizers and pesticides. It will have a modern wash down and filtering system that enhances discharged water to storm and sanitary sewer. The complex comprises 4 new buildings: large maintenance shed, plant care building, bulk/soils storage, and a members toilet.

The materials are chosen for sustainability, environmental aesthetic, and economy of scale. Sustainable features include: compact shape, sun orientation, recycled wood/steel structure, recycled content aluminum siding and roofing, fly-ash content concrete. Skylights will reduce the electric loads. Super insulation values save energy as well. The details and material selections reflect the same respect for the environment that its name implies.

It is designed to be a chameleon in its site, rarely seen by public or neighbors, heavily screened with new planting all around.
