Columbus Park West, Stamford
This site near Columbus Park in Stamford required
an early schematic design / site loading study, and it progressed
to initial zoning submittals. Two building towers were modeled on
the computer. One is an apartment building of 450 units and the other
is a hotel of 100 rooms with meeting/ convention amenities.
The hotel is placed on the Washington Blvd. side of Columbus Park,
nearest city hall. The apartment building is on the northern side
facing the corner that looks into the park and toward Mill River.
A four-story base supports the towers with entrances, lobbies, parking
and meeting pre-function spaces. Retail runs around the entire ground
floor to enhance the street activity.
Brick with limestone accents was the material of choice for the skin.
The warmth of the masonry is expected to make a contextual statement
in contrast to the many modern office buildings planned for the region.
