St. Andrew's Apartment Building, Stamford
The initial studies involved masterplanning,
site-loading analysis, and building modeling for this downtown Stamford
site, adjacent to the UCONN building, before it stalled in zoning proceedings.
A tower of 300 apartments is proposed, to rise above the UCONN building,
commanding views to the south and east toward the Mill River Park and
Long Island Sound beyond.
The design takes its cues from the UCONN building's shape and finishes,
complete with green glass, to match. The new tower block forms an "L"
shape in plan with about 14 units / floor. The entrance is on the church
side but is set back from the sanctuary, creating a new forecourt, with
drives, parking, drop offs, and landscaped park setting for the church's
ceremonial front door. The tower rises 25 stories with a health fitness
club at the top of the parking structure, along with a green roof deck.
The entire development is planned to achieve LEED Gold certification
with environmental amenities of: turbine generated power, recaptured
heating and cooling, waste water retention and recycling programs.
